2. How do I choose the right outdoor sofa for my garden?

Finding the right outdoor sofa for your garden can be easy if you know what to look for.

You need something that’s both comfortable and practical, and able to handle sudden changes in weather without becoming damaged. You’ll also want to accurately measure your outdoor space so your garden sofa doesn’t stick out at an awkward angle or take up valuable room that can be used for your garden accessories and smaller pieces of furniture.

The materials you choose should also be weather-resistant to withstand the elements, as you never know when a sunny day can turn to rain! Think rattan or treated wood. Also look for outdoor cushions that are quick-drying and removable, so you can safely store them away during rainy spells and colder months.

The most important part is picking a style that matches your already established design and how you use the space. Maybe you need a garden sofa for sun lounging and reading a book, or perhaps you’d prefer a larger one for social gatherings and summer evening meals. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s a comfortable option that makes you want to stay outside a little longer.

3. Are outdoor sofas weatherproof?

It’s difficult to describe an outdoor sofa as weatherproof, as they can experience rain and sun damage. However, most of our garden sofas are weather-resistant.

They’re designed to cope with sunshine, light rain, and everyday outdoor conditions, but should be protected and stored away during extreme weather. By doing this, you can make sure your outdoor sofa will last much longer and then you won’t have to replace it frequently.

For maximum durability, look for UV-resistant fabrics, quick-drying cushions, and consider investing in a furniture cover to keep your outdoor sofa looking great year after year.

4. How can I protect my garden sofa from the elements?

A little care goes a long way when protecting your garden sofa from the elements.

The easiest way is to find a well-fitting waterproof cover to go over your furniture during heavy rain, frost, and the winter months. Make sure to store your cushions indoors or in a weatherproof storage box to prevent mould and moisture, and regularly clean away dirt and leaves from the sofa as this may stain it over time.

Another trick is to place your outdoor sofa in a sheltered spot, like under a parasol or gazebo. Follow these simple steps and your garden sofa will stay comfortable and ready for relaxation year after year. Need some more care advice? Then make sure to check out our garden furniture care guides.

5. Can I leave my outdoor sofa outside all year round?

Yes, many outdoor sofas can be left outside all year round, but whether you should actually do that depends on the material and the regular weather.

Sofas made from rattan or high-quality teak are generally tough enough to stay outdoors through the seasons, while cushions are often the most vulnerable part and are best stored indoors when not in use.

Even if your sofa is built for year-round outdoor living, using a protective cover during prolonged rain, snow, or frost will help prevent wear, fading, and moisture damage. Every outdoor sofa will appreciate a little extra protection when the heavens open!

All your garden furniture should be treated with the same love and care, no matter how weather-resistant it is. If you’re furnishing a smaller outdoor space, make sure to check out our guide on furniture ideas for a variety of garden sizes.
