Can I use the outdoor cabinets in winter?

Your outdoor kitchen storage can be used all year round, so long as it’s appropriately protected against the weather. Be sure to cover your grill and furniture when not in use to prevent damage from rain, snow, and hail, and keep pipes well insulated to avoid any freezing. While outside kitchen units are ideal for use in summer weather, you can cook in any season if you’re able to brave the winter cold.

Will Barker and Stonehouse assemble my outdoor kitchen units for me?

The majority of medium- and large-sized Barker and Stonehouse furniture is delivered fully assembled, with some exceptions. Make sure to consult our product pages for information on whether your outdoor kitchen cabinets will require assembly. Some items may even be eligible for our professional assembly service at a small additional cost.

How do I protect and cover my garden kitchen units?

Garden kitchen cabinets are built to withstand weather damage, but some extra maintenance and care will be required to keep them in the best condition possible. To protect against rainfall and other adverse weather conditions, consider installing a canopy above your kitchen or using furniture covers to protect from damage. You can also apply teak oil to your teak wood surfaces every six to twelve months to keep your furniture durable.

How long will my garden kitchen units last?

When properly cared for, outdoor kitchen units can last up to 15 years, or even longer if taken care of properly. Regular maintenance is necessary to maximise your outdoor cabinets’ lifespan, so furniture that isn’t covered and treated won’t last as long.

Will I need planning permission for an outdoor kitchen?

Most outdoor kitchens will fall under “permitted development” under UK law, so no planning permission is required. This could vary if you’re building a permanent structure to house your kitchen, but an open-plan kitchen setup or smaller cooking area can be built without needing any permission from local authorities.
