Duvet FAQs

Have a different question?
Speak to an expert today.

1. Are duvets washable?

Yes! All our duvets are suitable for washing machine use and for tumble dryers. Each duvet will have a different recommended temperature for washing, so make sure you check the details beforehand. For instance, double duvets may need a lower temperature wash than king-sized duvets. It’s all about comfort and the quality of sleep, and frequent washes will make sure your duvet stays clean and maintained. Check out our guide on how to get a good night's sleep if you would like advice on achieving the best night’s sleep possible.

2. What does tog mean?

Tog stands for “Thermal Overall Grade”. It is simply a measure of how well the duvet insulates heat. If the tog number is higher, the duvet will feel a lot warmer than one of a lower tog number. It’s important to remember that tog does not affect weight and thickness. A thicker duvet can have a lower tog number than a thinner duvet as it depends on the materials and the construction. You may need a cooler duvet to improve your sleep if you become too hot at night, so a duvet with a lower tog number would be ideal.

3. What is a 3 in 1 duvet?

A 3 in 1 duvet will usually come with two detachable duvets, to be used either together or separately depending on your needs. This is to make sure you can adjust your duvet when the seasons change or if you are hosting guests and need different size options to accommodate them. Our Simba hybrid 3 in 1 duvet is a perfect example. It comes with two detachable duvets that change tog depending on which combination you choose. If you’re looking for some cosy bedroom ideas, a 3 in 1 duvet would be a perfect pairing as it provides comfort year-round due to its ability to change and adapt, so your room will stay cosy throughout every season.

4. How often should a duvet be replaced?

Usually, you should change your duvet every 5 to 10 years. This will all depend on how you look after it. If you notice your duvet isn’t insulating you enough anymore, or if you see visible wear and tear or feel uneven filling, then you know it’s time to purchase a new duvet.

5. Which duvet is best for summer?

When it comes to a good night’s sleep during the summer, you will want to buy a duvet with a lower tog number. This means it will be cooler during the night and not trap too much heat. We also have specific duvets for cooling. The materials used in these cooling duvets provide high moisture regulation for a dry and comfortable sleep, and contain active thermo-regulating properties to keep you cool during the summer.

6. Will a new duvet improve my sleep?

The weight and feel of a new duvet can have a calming effect on your body. The extra weight mimics a hug and can lower your stress levels and help you drift off when it’s time to go to sleep. Purchasing the correct tog and material will also improve your sleep quality, as your body temperature will be correctly regulated, and then you won’t have to worry about adjusting too much during the night. Finding the right duvet for your sleep needs has never been easier. Shop our range at Barker and Stonehouse and fall in love with your sleep again.
