Our collection of desks ranges from simple designs which are perfect if you only need a small writing desk, to large computer desks with space for your hard drive built in. You’ll find desks with drawers, so you can keep all of your important supplies and documents tidied away neatly. A double pedestal desk offers maximum storage capacity, with columns either side of the seating area, and some even featuring a hidden cavity for your computer hard drive. And for the ultimate home office desk, look for features such as keyboard trays and wrist support to keep your work space as comfortable as possible.
To begin with, make sure your desk is the right fit – both for your home office, and for your chair. You don’t want your desk to be too high or too low, as it can cause bad posture. Measure the space beneath the desk to ensure there’s enough room for your chair and your legs to sit comfortably. A poor chair can ruin even the finest desk, so ensure you select something comfortable and supportive for long hours of work. If needed, you can also add a footrest and/or wrist rest. Your desk should be well built and crafted from sturdy materials, like hardwood, especially if you’ll be using it for a heavy desktop computer.
The average height of a standard desk is between 70cm and 80cm, with around 73-76cm being most common. While this desk height should be suitable for most people, we always recommend measuring up your space first to ensure it will be a comfortable fit for you. Of course if your desk chair is adjustable, then you’ve got a bit more flexibility with your desk height, but for extended periods of work always ensure that your computer screens sit at eye level, your feet are flat on the floor, and your knees and elbows maintain a 90-degree angle.
Once you’ve got your desk essentials such as stationery and computer equipment in place, you can add a little personality with some simple accessories. A plant (real or artificial!) can help bring your space to life, while photos of your loved ones in stylish frames will make the space feel truly yours. To finish, a desk calendar can be both aesthetic and practical, while a chic table lamp provides focused lighting for those gloomy days.
