Although sideboards have been around for centuries, consumer interest reached an all-time high in January of this year, with more than one million people searching for the term online. Among the most popular searches were for sideboards in white, grey, oak, black, wood, rattan and walnut.
We saw a similar trend here at Barker and Stonehouse, with sideboard searches peaking in late December of 2020. In fact, the humble sideboard is the most common search on our website overall, so we thought we’d take a look at what exactly our customers are trying to find. The top terms we discovered were: small, black, oak, white, grey, large, walnut, marble, rattan and ercol. Let’s see which sideboards are selling fast in each of these categories…
Small Sideboards
A small sideboard like the Ercol Monza is perfect for narrow spaces, but it has a little more height to it so you’ve still got plenty of storage inside. If you’re looking for a kitchen sideboard, our compact Maison design will do a brilliant job, given its handy combination of drawer and shelf space.
Black Sideboards
A black sideboard is incredibly versatile, which means it can easily adapt to a change in décor. Our chic Cannelle is a modern sideboard with a twist, given a glam edge by its gold detailing. The Salinas, on the other hand, is a more industrial sideboard, featuring a black metal frame and glass doors.
Oak Sideboards
It may sound like a traditional choice, but an oak sideboard needn’t be dull. The contemporary Vega solid oak sideboard features a unique live edge design to its doors, so no two pieces are the same. On the more subtle side, our Lund oak sideboard has a natural finish that will complement all kinds of colour schemes.
White Sideboards
White sideboards look great in a wide range of spaces, from elegant dining rooms to contemporary living rooms. Give a smart look to your home with a white gloss sideboard, such as our Intelligent Concept LED sideboard, which comes with a range of handy features including wireless charging points. Alternatively, the Ginostra sideboard features subtle marble detailing and metal legs for a chic yet modern edge.
Grey Sideboards
Grey sideboards are the neutral compromise between black and white, and can lend a soft or sleek feel to your interior. A grey gloss sideboard has a certain glamorous yet masculine charm, such as the Versilia, which is finished with sharp chrome edging for an air of sophistication. The Versaille, on the other hand, is a completely different kind of grey sideboard - it provides antique charm with cast iron doors and a grey painted finish.
Large Sideboards
Make the most of your space with a large sideboard, like the Navarro. A great choice for open plan dining areas, it can double up as a serving station for drinks or buffet food. Ideal as a living room sideboard, the Kayak, from Cattelan Italia, has a generous size which offers plenty of room inside for electronics, DVDs and games, while the top can be decorated with an array of stylish objects.
Walnut Sideboards
A walnut sideboard that’s really won over our customers, the Halmstad features beautiful wood veneers and a concrete effect top. This industrial sideboard comes in a compact size too, so you could also bring one into the hallway or kitchen to tie the look together. With its 3D carved front and solid build, the exquisite Masai walnut sideboard from Porada is sure to capture any guest’s attention.
Marble Sideboards
Marble sideboards are undeniably beautiful, which makes them popular among those who love to show their home off. Offering a gorgeous touch to any dining room, the Woolton marble top sideboard combines the clean look of stone with the rustic finish of pine for a really romantic feel. A more contemporary option, the Minola marble sideboard has squared chrome legs and a stylish grey oak body.
Rattan Sideboards
Retro style has made quite a comeback in the rise of the rattan sideboard. Available in striking black, our popular Hague sideboard has been flying off the shelves since it first stepped onto the scene. The perfect blend of modern, retro and Scandinavian style, this mid-century sideboard has cane door fronts that give a trendy bohemian feel to any space. For something more neutral, the Hansen sideboard has a clear oak finish that will fit into any colour scheme.
Ercol Sideboards
A trusted name since 1920 and one of our oldest brand partners, Ercol never fails to deliver on quality and looks. We offer a wide range of Ercol sideboards, from the warm and homely Romana to the fresh and modern Verso. Always crafted to the highest standard and styled to survive the comings and goings of interior trends, an Ercol sideboard is truly a smart investment.
