Pantone has announced its colour of the year for 2022 as Very Peri, which is described as an intriguing colour that has the beloved qualities of blue, but is also infused with the warmth of a violet red undertone. This year is a first for Pantone, as it’s the only time the company has created a new colour for this purpose, rather than choosing from its existing catalogue.
Said to display “a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit” Very Peri is certainly a unique colour to experiment with in your home. It might seem a difficult one to style at first, but we’ve come up with five ways to make it work…
Very Peri with Neutral Tones
Let Pantone’s colour of the year do the talking by combining it with neutral tones. Very Peri is blessed with both cool and warm properties, so it can be swayed to suit everything from deep grey to light beige. Use an assortment of shades to bring out its diverse character.
Very Peri with Pops of Yellow
Yellow is the perfect complementary colour for periwinkle, whether it’s refreshing lemon, rich mustard or luxe gold. A good mix of tones and textures will give depth to this look – try metal accessories, sumptuous velvets and a yellow sofa or accent chair for real impact.
Very Peri with Silver Metallics
Introduce a luxurious and modern feel to Pantone’s colour of the year, without being too full on. Lamps and wall décor are a great way to bring silver into your scheme. You can also look for furniture with silver finishes, such as side tables with chrome legs.

Very Peri with Monochrome
A white and black look never goes out of fashion, and with added pops of periwinkle it’s a fun take that is sure to lift your interior. A monochrome rug will tie your whole space together, while small decorative objects and soft furnishings keep consistency throughout.
Very Peri with Warm Woods
Wood with yellow undertones is a brilliant match for Very Peri; think oak, maple and ash. This would be an especially soothing scheme for a bedroom – try pairing pale wood with natural fabrics like linen to create a cosy and serene feel.
