HOW TO...

Use your firepit

If you already own or are thinking about purchasing one of our garden sets with a firepit, there are a few important things you should know. Below, we've outlined key details to help you make an informed decision and get the most from your outdoor setup.

What gas bottle do I need?

When using one of our gas firepits, a patio gas bottle is required - these are the green propane-filled bottles.

We recommend a 5kg bottle, as this size fits neatly inside the table unit, keeping it concealed and secure. Using a larger bottle may not fit correctly, which can lead to potential damage or safety issues.

For our adjustable-height dining tables, the 5kg bottle fits comfortably in an upright position, allowing the table height to be adjusted without moving the gas bottle.

⚠️ Important: Gas bottles must always be kept upright during use and storage. Do not lay bottles on their side.

How much will a gas bottle cost?

Depending on where you purchase your gas, a 5kg patio gas bottle typically costs around £60. This is usually broken down into two parts:

  • £30 for the gas bottle hire/deposit
  • £30 for the initial gas fill

Most suppliers will refund the £30 deposit if you return the bottle when you're no longer using it. This makes it a one-off cost — after that, you’ll only need to refill the bottle rather than buy a new one.

How long does a gas bottle last?

Every KG of propane gas produces 14kW of heat energy so a 5kg bottle contains 70kW of heat energy.

On a continuous full heat, the lifespan of a 5kg gas bottle will last approximately 8 hours for an 8kW fire pit and 5 hours for an 14kW fire pit.

However, if you run the fire pit on a low or medium heat they will last considerably longer.

What is the expected cost per hour?

The price will vary depending on the heat energy of the fire pit and the amount you pay for your gas bottle. As an example, based on the heat energy stated above and £30 for your gas then it would cost approximately £3.50 per hour for an 8kW firepit and £6 per hour for a 14kW firepit on full heat.

However, if you use a low heat setting, the price could be up to half the amount stated. The lower setting you have your firepit set to, the longer it will run and the less your cost per hour will be.
