Not everyone wants to give their age away but when you’re the UK’s largest family-run furniture retailer and your name has become a watchword for quality and style that’s certainly something to celebrate.
This year Barker and Stonehouse is marking its 70th anniversary in the style you’d expect – with prize draws, designer collaborations and in-store festivities.
Since first opening in 1946 we’ve certainly grown – today we are owned by the third generation of the Barker family, have nine impressive stores, more than 400 staff, extensive corporate social responsibility activities and pioneering work to ensure an environmentally friendly supply chain.
We’ve certainly lived through changing times but have always remained true to our core values, knowing that ultimately it’s the mix of products, their style, comfort and practicality that brings customers through our doors.
Managing Director James Barker says: “We want to find pieces that inspire and excite our customers so we spend lots of time with manufacturers and artisans all over the world.
From the top quality upholstery and cabinetry suppliers in the UK to specialists in Italy, France, Germany and Scandinavia to the beautiful and exotic items we import from the Far East.
Attention to detail is vital. We believe the quality of our customer care should match that of our furniture. Every member of staff – in sales, working in the warehouse or those knocking on doors to deliver furniture really cares that the experience we’re giving our customers is first class.
We are proud of what we’ve achieved over the past 70 years and look forward to what the next 70 will bring.”
