Garden Styling Ideas: How to Transform Your Outdoor Space

There’s something special about those first glimmers of summer – warmer days, blooming flowers and that longing to spend as much time as possible in the garden.

And no matter the size of your outdoor space, you can create your very own glorious garden room with the right outdoor furniture and accessories – a sanctuary to be savoured season after season.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up our top tips for turning up the heat and making life al fresco a little more stylish…

Furniture is the foundation

Whether you’re looking to style a small balcony or want to transform a larger garden area, it’s important to find outdoor furniture that not only fits your space, but also your lifestyle.

From trendy bistro sets, ideal for low-key gatherings, to comfy corner sofas where you can entertain from day to night, our outdoor furniture collection has something for every outdoor space, no matter the size or setting.

Perhaps one of our favourite takes on our ‘glorious garden rooms’ theme this season is @ourlittleflintcottage’s highly anticipated garden transformation. Like the rest of her cottage, Jessie’s outdoor area is relatively small and so her aim was to create a space that felt like an additional room – an extension to her cottage, if you will.

The Hathaway Garden set from @barkerandstonehouse fitted our brief perfectly. It has a traditional, timeless and comfortable look. The set is made up of a spacious sofa, two armchairs and a rounded table, giving flexibility to arrange the furniture to mimic a living room set and helping to create the extension of the cottage feel that was so important to us.” - @ourlittleflintcottage.

Seasonal, sustainable accessorising

When it comes to accessorising your outdoor space, opt for seasonal touches that not only look great but are practical too.

The lovely Anna of @feather_and_faff knows a thing or two about seasonal styling. She recently upgraded her old, slightly tired outdoor dining area with our Tiverton six-seater dining set and transformed it into the ultimate al fresco entertaining space. Be inspired by her beautiful tablescape below, complete with borrowed backyard blooms foraged from her magnolia tree.

“I wanted to create a multipurpose area where we can come and relax with a book, coffee or glass of wine as well a space to be sociable, to gather with friends and family over relaxed lunches or dinners.” - @feather_and_faff.

Layer up the look

While the great British weather can certainly be unpredictable, there are a number of practical steps you can take to make the most of your outdoor space – and furniture – all year round.

Just like cushions and throws that add an extra layer of warmth, outdoor rugs give the illusion of being indoors and provide a warming texture underfoot. And if you really want to embrace your garden during the cooler months too, invest in a firepit that will make life al fresco a lot cosier.

And don’t forget to remove cushions and cover your furniture when it’s not in use. This will protect it from sun, rain, tree sap, bird droppings, dust and more.
