This weekend saw Candlelighters’ first Colour Me Crazy event, a colour run sponsored by Barker and Stonehouse that took place in the beautiful grounds of Hull Collegiate School in Anlaby.

Candlelighters, a Leeds based charity supporting children with cancer and their families from all over Yorkshire were keen to make an impact in Hull, and with our help they were able to.  Noemie Salvaudon from Candlelighters, who organised the event said: “Saturday was a great day for us. As well as raising vital funds for our charity we were able to enjoy a great family paint-throwing event.  At route was just 3k the challenge was less about running and more about getting colourful!”

The event was sponsored by Barker and Stonehouse in Hull, with Store Manager, Imran Tai, involved from the beginning. He said: “We heard about the event and couldn’t wait to support it.  Candlelighters is such an important cause and we really wanted to show that the people of Hull and the Barker and Stonehouse team were on board.

“The sun shone and everyone had a great time. Barker and Stonehouse were proud to lend their support.”

The event attracted participants as young as toddlers, right through to grandparents as well as some children currently on treatment for their condition. Hull boy Benjamin Marsh, who just turned 12, who is currently on treatment for ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia), took part with his mum and 13 of their friends. The ladies in the team sported fun tutus, made especially for the event.

Ben said: “Candlelighters have been supporting me and my family since I was first diagnosed with leukaemia, 18 months ago. They even paid for us to go on holiday to Center Parcs last month. Colour Me Crazy was brilliant fun, and because it was laps, you could really enjoy it no matter what distance you could run.”

The event raised over £4,000 which means Candlelighters will be able to continue to develop the support they offer to families across Yorkshire, with £1.5m a year to raise every penny counts.

Kate Goldring, Fundraising Manager added “We can’t thank everyone who got involved enough.  From a great venue in Hull Collegiate, to a fantastic sponsor in Barker and Stonehouse, the Stingray Scouts for doing an amazing job volunteering on the day, plus some wonderful families who came down to get involved in the paint throwing fun. Thank you!”
