Caroline Hodgson, accessories Buying Manager, at Barker and Stonehouse, gives you six steps to creating a beautifully-natural Christmas dining table with just a few key pieces.

1. Show off your table

You can use a tablecloth if you prefer but we love the simplicity of the Versaille dining range, perfectly complimented by these gorgeous plush Grenadier dining chairs.

2. Stick to a tonal palette

Rustic wooden Christmas decorations are a subtle alternative to the traditional red and gold and you can add sparkle through lights and subtle shimmery accessories.

3. Decide on a colour or theme for your table settings

Whether it’s rich jewel colours, natural neutrals or sparkling silver – choose a theme to embrace seasonality fashionably. Glass lanterns and vases make fantastic and versatile centrepieces. Try filling them with pine cones, nuts or colourful baubles depending on your mood to bring your theme to life.

4. Try a garland

A frosted garland evokes a lovely festive feeling without the need for ostentatious decorations.

5. Lay the table with care

Layering white tableware with a set featuring a subtle pattern or design creates a pretty and polished look which is perfect for formal occasions such as Christmas dinner.

6. Candles create ambience

Candlelight is excellent for creating a soft and mellow mood. Use cream or white candles and silver candle holders such as these Coral Hurricane Lanterns to create a focal centrepiece.

And there you have it. Take a seat, light the candles and enjoy your Christmas meal.
