We talk to Yannick about life as an Interior Designer at our Battersea store:
What does your job involve?

As an interior designer, it’s my job to help customers to create beautiful living spaces that are functional too. Whether they’re planning a quick room update or embarking on a bigger project, I’m on hand at the Battersea store to help them bring their visions to life with style inspiration, guidance and advice.

How long have you worked at Barker and Stonehouse?

I started a few weeks before the Battersea store opened in June 2013; back then it was just an empty (but gorgeous) old Victorian candle factory. I remember being inspired by the space and the possibilities that it offered.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My days are really varied, which I love. One day I could be visiting a client and their team of builders in South West London and the next I could back at the store and meeting with a fabric manufacturer or lighting designer. Last year we worked on a project in the French Alps which meant I had to fly out there on several occasions to consult on the completion of the chalet which was great fun.

What do you love about your job?

It sounds clichéd, but I love helping people to create homes that reflect their personalities. To me each client is different and I’m always challenging myself to find new designs and concepts to make the project unique. I also enjoy getting to know my clients and learning what makes them tick; it’s a very sociable job which is great.

What’s your favourite piece of furniture right now?

That’s a difficult question! We’ve got some stunning new pieces on the shop floor so there’s a lot that’s caught my eye! If I had to choose anything, an all-time favourite for me is the Brandon Corner Unit sofa; it’s so versatile and looks just as good in a family room as it does in a bachelor pad or luxurious home cinema. It’s available in a huge array of colours so looks different in every project I’ve placed it in.

How do you spend your time when you’re not at work?

I often spend my days off doing things that are still design related, such as going to see an art show or meeting with fellow interior designers for a bite to eat. I’m always on the lookout for ideas and design solutions for my projects, even on my days off!
