We talk to Accessory Buying Manager Sally Coombes about her role at Barker and Stonehouse.
- What does your job involve?
As Accessory Buying Manager my job is to source exciting and inspirational accessories and rugs to sit within Barker and Stonehouse’s key seasonal trends and complement the furniture.
- What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days are the same. It can vary greatly – from attending trade shows like Maison de objet in Paris (which is very inspirational!), to visiting UK and European suppliers, to being in the office negotiating prices or checking on products within our nine stores.
- What do you love about your job?
The fact we are an inspirational brand and I get to source beautiful, trend-leading products. Product is what makes me tick.
- What’s your favourite piece of furniture right now?
That’s a difficult question as we have so many great pieces! My favourite look from this season is the industrial Urban Luxe – I just love the mix of wood and metal. I’ve also recently purchased the new Keeler metal bed and love the Fawn occasional tables we have in store. I also adore vintage items, having been surrounded by antique furniture growing up, and think the Liberty chairs are fabulous. You can’t beat a stylish chair to totally transform an otherwise functional room.
- How do you spend your time when you’re not at work
I have a young family so spend as much time with them as possible, ideally outside in the garden or out and about in our classic VW camper series exploring the UK. Having recently moved back to Yorkshire after being in Cardiff and London most of my adult life, I am re-discovering how stunning the North is. I also enjoy visiting old haunts and catching up with friends and family.
