When it comes to the comfort of our own homes, we all like to think of ourselves as style superstars.
And one of the strongest trends this season is exactly what we need to confirm how we feel. It’s pure Hollywood, but with a Regency touch that gives it a touch of extra heritage and opulence.
As befits a movie star look, there’s plenty of gleam and glitter involved. The Athos Console Table sums it up perfectly, with clean, plain-edged legs and strong marble top – while not what you might think of as classic Regency furniture, it has a simplicity of style that makes it a perfect fit.
The shining legs of this elegant console give a sleek glamour to the room, enhanced here by the addition of a cluster of gilded candles and the striking Chain Glass Lamp with its textured gold base.
Comfort is absolutely at a premium in this sort of room, of course, so you need a strong focus on your soft furnishings, too. I’m thrilled with Parker Knoll’s Celestine Snuggler with its foil charcoal fabric – just a touch of sheen – and timeless style. The geometric cushions add to its individual look – perfect for curling up on.
Taking the individual approach further, I’d also find a central spot for the Stradella Coffee Table, which is true Hollywood with its embossed crocodile skin (faux!) surface and metal binding. It’s practical, too, offering plenty of storage space in its gorgeous veneered interior – for your celebrity magazines, naturally!
Even in a room designed for subtle glows, lighting is important. The Lamp Shade Ball contributes both style and illumination – and striking mirrors such as the Meath Links Round Mirror help reflect that softly round the room.
No Hollywood star would feel complete without a bevy of paparazzi, of course, and while we can’t guarantee instant stardom you can have some fun with the fabulous Lichfield Camera Lamp. It’s got a quirky retro feel that speaks of red carpets, diamonds and designer gowns – and its oversized flash houses the lightbulb.
Overall, the look is elegant and luxurious, with a hint of heritage to give it a real classic feel. Rich woods are a true Regency theme, so look for rosewood and mahogany finishes, packed with dark appeal.
Complement it all with champagne-coloured fabrics, golden accessories and rich, soft rugs fit for a movie star to sink her expensive toes into. Ready for my close-up, Mr DeMille!
