Today is no ordinary Monday. Today is BLUE Monday. Not heard of it? It’s an annual trend on Twitter, #BlueMonday typically occurs on the third Monday in January every year.

Dubbed as the bleakest, most depressing day of the year, it arrives just as the hype from Christmas dies down. The weather is usually pretty grim, New Year’s resolutions have failed miserably and the daily grind is back in full swing. (When’s the next Bank Holiday again? Oh!)

Don’t despair. We’ve got 5 ways to help banish those blues and turn your Monday into a much brighter one.

  1. Bag a bargain

The number one go-to cheer-up remedy? Retail therapy, of course.

I’m sure you’v e already heard that we’re in sale. With up to 30% off all furniture and up to 15% off accessories online and in store, now is a pretty good time as any to turn something old into something new. So how about introducing some new looks into your home for the New Year? We’ve got hundreds of products to help give your room an instant update. Alternatively, there are heaps of ranges to give your whole home an entire refresh, if you so wish.

Here’s just a taster of the most popular products in our Winter Sale so far…

  1. Let’s do lunch
Who doesn’t love catching up with friends over a bite to eat? I know we’re a little bit biased but the in-store cafes found in our Newcastle, Knaresborough, Battersea and Teesside showrooms really do serve the most scrumptious food. From chocolately afternoon tea, smoked salmon pate to thick cut honey roast ham and truffled pease pudding, we could stay there all day. Deeelicious!

  1. Immerse yourself in home inspiration
There’s no harm in a little window-shopping, is there? Surround yourself with a multitude of ideas for the home when you head into store. Explore all that’s new, fresh and innovative. We don’t mind if you nab some styling ideas, that’s what we’re here for.

  1. Lessons in design
As much as you’d love to be able to, sometimes its tricky to visualise exactly how you want your space to look. You’ve got some products in mind that you like, a selection colours and maybe themes but you just need a little extra guidance in getting your place looking just right. Why do all the hard work when you can get someone else to do it for you? We’ve partnered up with a very carefully-chosen selection of interior designers who can lend a helping hand. We help source specific products for them so they can create the exact look you want.Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? We’d suggest calling your nearest store to book an interior design appointment. What better way to perk up a (blue) Monday? Interior-design-Barker-and-Stonehouse
  2. Snuggle up
Nothing beats curling up on a comfy sofa with a steaming hot cup of cocoa and your favourite book, film or soap! You may have had a tiring day at work but so what? You’re home now, so enjoy it!

If these suggestions don’t cheer you up, we don’t know what will.

Just think, tomorrow is another day – a very ordinary Tuesday with (hopefully) no blues whatsoever.
