I am so excited about the Queen’s Jubilee in June. Four days of celebrating all things British culminating in a spectacular royal parade, and a thoroughly British celebration.
Whether you’re organising a street party, having a get together at home, or are day-tripping to London to fly the flag at the parade in person, celebrate this momentous occasion with some beautifully patriotic home furnishings.
The last few years have seen our iconic red, white and blue flag used a lot in interior design, whether for furniture, cushion prints or curtains, and what better time to invest in such a quintessentially British style than for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee?
I love this Hope and Glory three-seater sofa – to me it is true British ‘rock n roll’ and reminiscent of the 90’s Britpop era when Oasis and Blur burst onto the scene. Using original vintage Union Jack fabric in a traditional Chesterfield style, it really makes a dramatic statement. Classic yet eccentric, its boldness will never go out of fashion.
For a real rock star feel, team with Jamie Reid’s Sex Pistol ‘God Save The Queen’ prints http://www.monograph-art.com/artists/jamie-reid or this eye-popping red Ligne Roset chair and stool. A new take on the traditional rocking chair, the simple geometric design is very comfortable while having pure, soft and minimalist lines.
Alternatively, why not spruce up your home with a Union Jack rug? This luxury rug from Barker and Stonehouse is handmade and 100% wool – I particularly like the natural colour for a cutting-edge take on the traditional red, white and blue. It’s perfect for an indoor picnic while watching the Jubilee on the television.
Accessorise with gorgeous hand embroidered cushions from Jan Constantine. A stalwart in the patriotic interior trend, Jan always comes up trumps with great designs, and her Diamond Jubilee Collection doesn’t disappoint. My favourites are the Lion and Unicorn cushion or the Street Party design which is festooned with hearts, a crown, bunting and other British emblems.
For a decorative wall hanging, you simply can’t go wrong with this cotton Patriot flag in a wood and glass frame. Get it while you can, as it’s a hugely popular item de jour and it would make a fantastic gift or keepsake of this momentous occasion.
So instead of buying throw-away Union Jack bunting or other disposable Jubilee memorabilia, opt for a long-lasting keepsake like one of these gorgeous designer items, while flying the flag for the Queen and her Diamond Jubilee. And what’s more, such an item will become a family heirloom with an interesting story to tell.
