Colour Trend: Into the Blue

Looking for a summer style update? One of the best ways to refresh your interior for the new season is with an injection of on-trend colour.

So what shades should you be coveting this summer? This year, our favourite colour trend has to be blue.

Both refreshing and relaxing, blue hues are a perfect choice for the home and are versatile enough to work with every style. In fact, Dulux have just named a shade of blue called Denim Drift as their "Colour of the Year 2017".

One of our spring/summer 2017 looks - Into the Blue - brings together retro-inspired style with a cool blue colour palette.

The look features linear forms combined with soft curves and tactile surfaces for an up-to-date look that's perfect for a contemporary home. Drawing on a base palette of deep teal, navy and aquamarine tones, the result is cool and calming.

How to Get the Look

The key to achieving this look is to experiment with vibrant hues and patterns - from wall coverings to key furniture pieces, don't be afraid to go bold!

One of the easiest ways to brighten up your interior is by creating a colourful base. Paint a room in your favourite blue shade, or create a statement wall with a bold geometric pattern such as the one we've used here.

Next, build your scheme by updating larger furniture pieces to create a focal point. One of our favourite trend-led pieces for summer 2017 is the blue Juni Sofa. The vivid Riva marine blue fabric adds a contemporary twist to the mid-century inspired shape of the Juni.

For the dining room, blue dining chairs such as our retro-shaped Flynn chairs will create wow-factor as well as offering a hint of on-trend velvet.

While feature walls and statement furniture are perfect for adding a dose of colour to an interior, be careful not to add too many cool colours, as your room could end up looking cold.

Layer blue sofas and chairs with oak furniture and retro pieces to add warmth and keep the look homely. Beautifully sculpted wooden consoles, sideboards, dining and coffee tables are fundamental for achieving this look.

Finally, bring the look together with on-trend accessories for a contemporary effect. Blue accessories will add the perfect finishing touch to your home this summer, whether you're transforming your whole room or just want a quick colour update. Deep navy and pale blue bottles and vases such as the Recycled Glass Vase Duo will make a statement when grouped together on a table or sideboard.

Add interest by accentuating the look with complementary colours - splashes of yellow or hints of metallic copper create an eye-catching contrast again blue hues.
