A local football team is sitting pretty at the top of the league thanks to sponsorship from furniture retailer Barker and Stonehouse.

The Jacksdale Miners Welfare FC men’s team, who play in the first division of the Alfreton Insurance Services Sunday Football League, are now scoring in a stylish new strip and have been able to buy other much needed equipment including a first aid kit, new match balls and training gear.

Club secretary and player Damien Curran, who is also an office administrator at Barker and Stonehouse Nottingham, said the new kit is good motivation for the team and is thrilled that they were able to help.

“I already knew that Barker and Stonehouse support their staff with their charitable and community interests so spoke to my store manager about it, provided a little more information and luckily we got the go-ahead.

“The sponsorship has been a huge morale boost to the lads and as a result we have had a really successful start to the season, winning four games from four, to sit at the top of the table.  We even won our last game 10-0!”
