Things are getting a little bit hairy at Barker and Stonehouse this month, with members of staff pledging their support to the global charity initiative Movember and becoming official Mo Bros.

Thirteen male employees from the retailer’s Hull store and Middlesbrough warehouse will be battling it out to see who can grow the most impressive moustache, but all have a common goal – to help raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Female staff, or Mo Sistas, will also be doing their bit for the worthy cause by baking moustache designed cupcakes to sell in the Hull store to customers throughout the month.

Movember was established in Australia in 2003, with the vision of changing the way people view men’s health issues, and now spans the globe with campaigns in 21 countries.

Funds raised by Movember are donated to programmes run by the charity and its partners – Prostate Cancer UK and The Institute of Cancer Research – and in 2011 UK Mo Bros and Mo Sistas raised over £22 million for the cause.

Barker and Stonehouse Hull senior sales manager, and Movember team captain, James Bentley said: “I was shocked to learn through the registration process on the website that more than 10,000 men will die of prostate cancer this year in the UK.

“Movember is a great initiative to help raise money and awareness for men’s health while having a laugh along the way.  I can’t wait to see which member of our team finishes the month with the most imaginative mo!”
