In a big month for Barker and Stonehouse, the brand is also celebrating the ten year anniversary of its Metro Centre store and the start of construction to build a new store and head office in Stockton, Teesside, planned to open in early 2015.

Barker and Stonehouse has teamed up with Newcastle’s Oak restaurant to launch its first in-store café in the North.
Oak at Social Fuel has opened this weekend in the Newcastle store, with menu highlights including super-food salads, open salmon and prawn sandwiches, and a soon-to-come champagne afternoon tea.
Situated on the first floor of the Leazes Park Road store, the café affords views across the Strawberry Hill area from the large, curved windows and feature lounge-seating, a café section and bar/deli area.
Furnished with Barker and Stonehouse wares, the café is the ultimate place to relax, refuel and revive, with free wi-fi available and a wide range of drinks, snacks and light lunches.
Store Manager Jill Marriott said: “We’ve been planning to launch an in-store café and lounge at the store for some time and are thrilled to be collaborating with such a great, well-known local business as Oak.”
Oak owners Dawn and Ross Arceri are long-established restaurateurs having been behind several well-known ventures including Uno’s Trattoria, Scalinis and Roscos, before setting up Oak.
This is the first venture for the Oak brand outside of their flagship venue in Milburn House, Dean Street, which opened in June 2011.

“We’re also getting a fantastic selection of Spanish produce from buyer Alejandro Marzana Hawrylak, including chorizos, olives, and a selection of cheese and wine.”

The North East company’s first store in London opened in July last year with a large store in Battersea and first Social Fuel café. Plans are also in progress for a café at the Stockton store.
