Every day many hundreds of sofas, beds and dining tables join thousands of rugs and accessories to speed their way to our customers’ homes. It’s literally moving a mountain every single day!
It’s true to say that our logistics, warehouse and delivery teams are the unsung heroes in our daily story of bringing a bit of Barker and Stonehouse magic to homes across the land.
To show you just what’s involved, we joined Lindsay in our logistics team, along with Garry and Sean from our delivery team, on a typical work day.
Customers Claire and Neil recently moved to their beautiful new home in North Shields where they created their dream kitchen diner. The finishing touch was our Indiana table and bench set along with comfy Hix chairs as their stylish finishing touch.
A key part to our success and keeping the deliveries on track without any issues is the careful planning and route mapping that is completed each and every day prior to any work being started in our warehouses.
Preparations start a couple of days before delivery is due when we unwrap the furniture from the manufacturer’s packaging to thoroughly quality check everything.
We compact and recycle all manufacturer’s packaging meaning nothing goes to waste.
Once we’re happy we’ll re-wrap everything in our own specially designed delivery bags. It all then gets neatly packed into one of our smart liveried lorries.
Getting the most out of every journey means careful route planning and mapping. Our state of the art logistics system rivals the best in the world. It does away with paper entirely and brings highly efficient real-time communications between warehouse, driver, customers and our HQ throughout the process logging each step of the way. The result is better customer service, as well as optimum deliveries per fuel consumed – so it’s kinder on the environment too.
Stacking a lorry with its maximum load is like solving a Rubik’s cube. Getting it all to our customers’ homes without any damage is quite an art form. But we’re in safe hands with Sean and Garry as they’ve done the job for many years.
Sixty years ago the delivery team developed distinctive interior lattices for our vans. They also came up with a secure but easy to release knot to ensure all furniture is snug and secure from loading to delivery. After all this time it’s still the best way to pack and deliver our furniture. It’s a system that the whole delivery team uses every day.
And then we’re off on the road to North Tyneside to Claire and Neil’s lovely new home.
Garry and Sean carefully assemble the table in Claire and Neil’s gorgeous kitchen diner.
"From start to finish we’ve had amazing customer service. It’s been so easy, we’ll definitely be shopping with Barker and Stonehouse again soon."
