The Tempur Story

The story of Tempur® started back in the late 1960's when NASA scientists invented a completely new material that was used onboard the space shuttles. The TEMPUR® founders realised the potential in this material and spent years perfecting the NASA invention to create TEMPUR® material and the world's first viscoelastic mattress and pillow.

TEMPUR® first proved its value in the healthcare sector and can now be found in bedrooms all over the world, transforming the sleep of millions.

Tempur® Material

TEMPUR® Material is a type of memory foam - but unlike any other. Its unique formula has always been closely guarded, known by fewer than 10 people worldwide, all of whom work within the company. Since the launch of the first memory foam mattress and pillow in 1991, this innovative material has been at the core of every product.

TEMPUR® Material is viscoelastic, meaning it combines fluid and spring-like properties. This is made possible by billions of ultra-sensitive open cells that exist in a state between solid and liquid - that’s what makes it so special.

Like nothing else on earth

The moment you lie down, it feels like pure magic as the material responds instantly to your body’s shape, weight, and warmth - adapting precisely to support every inch of you. Its proven pressure-relieving properties provide exceptional comfort and support, helping you fall asleep faster and reducing tossing and turning. It also minimises motion transfer, so you and your partner are less likely to disturb each other. While the science behind TEMPUR® Material is complex, its purpose is simple: to help you achieve truly restful sleep.
